Why spring the best time to insulate

45% heat loss through uninsulated solid walls

25% heat loss through the loft/roof space
20% heat loss through windows & doors

With the milder weather March brings, spring has well and truly sprung! While sprint cleaning is on everyone’s agenda, it can also be an excellent time to turn your attention to insulating your home? Spring is one of the best times of year to insulate your home before the heating season starts – so you can really feel the benefit.

Think of thermal insulation as putting a giant blanket around your house; the walls, your roof, floors, windows and doors, the lot.

Warm in the winter, cool in the summer

Despite what you might think, insulation actually has the dual benefit of keeping your home cool during the summer months and keeping it warm during the winter months.

But how? Insulation works by stopping the movement of heat through your walls, floors and doors. Take the summer; for example, your exterior walls will be warmer as they absorb the heat from the sun. If you have adequate insulation, the warmth will enter the home much slower if you have sufficient insulation. A good tip is to open your windows in the evening/overnight, then close them in the morning before the temperature starts to rise. This method will trap cool air in the house and will stay cool throughout the day.

Combine with house repairs & renovations

Spring is also the time when people turn their attention to house repairs and renovations. Because of this, it can be more convenient to undergo an insulation project whilst areas of the home are already under construction. So consider having some renovation works done, considering insulating areas of your property simultaneously.

Thermal insulation is easy to install

We don’t want to point out the obvious, but spring is cooler than summer. So insulating your property can be less arduous in the spring due to it being cooler. There’s nothing worse than being stuck in dark hot lofts, so the cooler summer months are perfect conditions.
